Thanksgiving cocktail ideas!

Ultimately, Thanksgiving is a bit of a beast to pair anything with. What goes with turkey, cranberries, pumpkin pie and potentially awkward social circumstances? I usually go with a sparkling red like Lambrusco and a Valium.

I liked Dylan, the way he created a brilliant new style… I even gave him one of my silver Elvis paintings in the days when he was first around. Later on, though, I got paranoid when I heard rumors that he had used the Elvis as a dart board up in the country. When I’d ask, ‘Why did he do that?’ I’d invariably get hearsay answers like ‘I hear he feels you destroyed Edie [Sedgwick],’ or ‘Listen to Like a Rolling Stone - I think you’re the ‘diplomat on the chrome horse,’ man.’ I didn’t know exactly what they meant by that - I never listened much to the words of songs - but I got the tenor of what people were saying - that Dylan didn’t like me, that he blamed me for Edie’s drugs.

Dylan:

I once traded an Andy Warhol “Elvis Presley” painting for a sofa, which was a stupid thing to do. I always wanted to tell Andy what a stupid thing I done, and if he had another painting he would give me, I’d never do it again.

My grandparents met at a “Coke Party,” which was like a mixer where everyone just drank a bottle of Coke. He was a friend of my grandmother’s brother from the war. She was engaged to another man at the time. He walked her onto her train home and didn’t end up getting off in time. They spent the six hour ride together and were engaged by the end of it. They were married for 60 some years until he passed away in 2007.

That is a beautiful story, and Coke needs to bring back those cylindrical bottles.

Coal Pier (via relaxing)

Urban exploring this weekend, skulking around an abandoned pier on the Delaware river. The concrete pillars were covered in grafitti and the detritus of paintball fights. Hiking back through the empty lots we ran into dirtbike riders and a man walking a pack of wild-looking dogs.

Afterwords we drank bloody marys sitting out in the 70 degree November air. A good day all around.
